  • Background
Founded in 2011, the ISP aimed to deliver high-speed internet to underserved communities, enhance public safety, and support the local business ecosystem with advanced IT services. Currently with a base of 2400 subscribers, the ISP’s mix included 1000 fixed wireless and 1400 fiber optic customers.
  • Objective
The primary goal was to scale the business by 2-3 times within a three-year timeframe, setting the stage for the CEO’s retirement and succession by his son
  • Growth vs. Time
The ISP faced the daunting task of achieving in three years what had taken over a decade, amidst subscriber churn challenges.
  • Operational Focus
Heavy emphasis on network infrastructure expansion and upgrades to next-gen fixed wireless access (NG-FWA) led to low subscriber growth rates and increased churn.
  • Market Competition
Emerging threats from competitors like Starlink and T-Mobile heightened churn risks.
  • Visibility
Lack of marketing and brand awareness efforts left potential customers unaware of the ISP as a viable option.
  • Operational Efficiency
The intertwined nature of construction operations for both fixed wireless and fiber optics obscured the accurate cost analysis per home passed.
  • Valuation and Market Analysis
Performed a comprehensive analysis of the ISP’s market position and value, identifying competitive strengths and areas for improvement. This included assessing market demand, competitive landscape, and financial health to inform strategic decisions and enhance investment attractiveness.

  • Network Assessment
Conducted an in-depth forensic analysis of the network, from core configurations to edge capabilities, to determine the potential for subscriber growth and necessary technological upgrades.

  • Operational Assessment & Recommendations
Evaluated existing processes, resources, and platforms to identify ine􀁺ciencies and recommend improvements, streamlining operations to support aggressive growth targets.

  • Company Restructure
Implemented a strategic reorganization to separate construction activities from ISP operations, enhancing clarity in resource allocation, cost control, and operational focus.
  • State Broadband Challenge
Addressed and overturned a significant funding challenge through detailed network assessments and market analysis, securing essential funding for continued expansion.
  • Valuation & Market Analysis
Comprehensive valuation and market analysis provided a clear understanding of the ISP’s market position and potential growth trajectories. This insight was crucial in developing strategies that enhanced the company’s value and attractiveness to investors, further supporting the CEO’s exit strategy by positioning the business as a robust and viable entity for succession and future leadership.
